Former Bafana Bafana, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates star Jabu Mahlangu was involved in a motor accident in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The 41-year-old is reportedly in hospital with serious injuries, but there has been no official update on his condition.
Having burst onto the scenes as a teenager Jabu Pule, as he was known then, became a star for Chiefs and for the national team.
But his promising career was checkered by off-the-field issues, and while he went on to play for Pirates, SV Mattersburg in Austria and SuperSport United, he never fulfilled the promise he had shown.
However in later years Mahlangu cleaned up and became an ambassador for SuperSport and a SuperSport TV analyst, as well as a radio pundit.
TimesLIVE spoke to Mahlangu’s lawyer Mabu Marweshe who confirmed the accident involving Mahlangu’s Sedan and a mini-bus taxi, and that Mahlangu was in the Far East Hospital in Brakpan.
“We can confirm the accident happened involving our client and he is still in hospital,” Marweshe told TimesLIVE.
“As soon as the doctors have given the go-ahead to consult with us we will be able to provide more information.”
