Junior Shares Thoughts On Ndamane Mistake

IDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye says he sympathises with Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khulumani Ndamane after the player’s mistake in his side’s 1-1 draw with Stellenbosch at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday.

Sundowns were coming fresh from continental glory, having secured a spot in this season’s CAF Champions League final over the weekend.

They were leading the game 1-0 when the 22-year-old brought down winger Chumani Butsaka in the box with five minutes left on the regular clock, conceding a costly penalty.

Tshegofatso Mabasa converted on the rebound after Ronwen Williams saved his initial attempt to help Stellies gain a point that saw them close in on the top 8.

However, for the defending champions the result meant they missed an opportunity to regain first place, as they stayed in second position with 57 points, a point behind leaders Orlando Pirates but with a game in hand.

Sundwons coach Miguel Cardoso called the action “reckless” in his post-match TV interview, saying there was no danger in that moment. The coach felt his side gave away the game, with Khanye saying he felt the former TS Galaxy man had a good game but endured a lapse in concentration.

“Well done to Miguel Cardoso, I think he’s unfortunate to not win this game,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“Because it’s a lapse of concentration by the boy. Khulumani Ndamane played well I need to be honest. He did very well.

“He should have headed the ball there. He shouldn’t have raised his leg, I mean by doing what he did he gave Stellenbosch something out of nothing.

“Now it makes it look like the game was balanced.”
