JZ – Pirates Could Still Overtake Benni’s AmaZulu
Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer says that with four games remaining for his team in the DStv Premiership, they could still finish in second place.
Pirates are currently fourth, but have two games in hand over third-placed Golden Arrows, and are just three points behind.
A third-place finish would see them qualify again for the CAF Confederation Cup, which they exited against Raja Casablanca on the weekend.
Pirates are seven points behind Benni McCarthy’s second-placed AmaZulu, who have played one more game. But the two teams play on Thursday, in a game that could decide whether Pirates can challenge for second spot, and qualification for the CAF Champions League, or not.
Zinnbauer says if they want to achieve that, they will have to fight for it.
“You have now a chance, you can can fight for a good place,” Zinnbauer told gathered media at the launch for the 2021 Carling Cup.
“And we have in our hands not all things but third place is in our hands, second place maybe?
“But we have to fight for this, and if you want to go to a Champions League place then you have to win the games.
“And then you have the next experience next year and if you get more experience for the players then you get more success.”
