JZ: Why I Benched Lorch & Hotto
A frustrated Josef Zinnbauer has explained why he benched Thembinkosi Lorch and Deon Hotto in his side’s surprise defeat against TS Galaxy.
The Buccaneers lost their catch-up game 1-0 on Sunday, leaving them four points behind second-placed AmaZulu, while level on points with Golden Arrows, who a three goals better goal difference.
Zinnbauer explained why neither Lorch nor Hotto started in Sunday’s match, saying he is trying to manage the fitness of his players.
“The problem is always that you have the players ready and if have the feeling or you get the information that the player, the muscle is tight or the conditioning is not enough for 90 minutes then it’s better you bring fresh players,” he continued.
“We have a good squad, we can change the squad but it’s always before the game or after the game you have more information yeah. But Hotto is always on the highest level, Lorch it was not possible from the start, it was clear. But we need him, that was the reason for the substitute.
“But in overall it was not enough, ten, 20 minutes in the first-half, it’s not enough you can win the game. You were not in a structure, you were not forward passing, it was always a reaction and it was not enough for a win.
“Yes, the second-half yes but it’s not easy in the game, during the game you get the goal, you get the chance for the equaliser but you can’t score, you can’t win a game.
Zinnbauer also insisted that he team know what they need to do in their final two DStv Premiership games if they want to qualify for a CAF competition for next season.
“I know the players know what happened. They know what after this 90 minutes is happening (on the log),” the German added.
“We have to focus, we have to analyse quick and then we need the head up and then we play against Baroka, it’s also a special game. We need the points. If you want to one of this three places on the table then we need three points from this.”
Pirates will play Baroka on Wednesday before hosting Tshakuma in the final game of the 2020/21 campaign on Saturday.
