Kerr – I Thought Khune Was Man Of The Match

Swallows head coach Dylan Kerr, who was in charge of the Warriors team during the DStv Compact Cup, has praised the performance of Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

Despite being inactive for most of the season, the Amakhosi veteran was voted into the Warriors team, and the 34-year-old did not disappoint.

Khune was key for the Warriors and made some big saves to help the team advance to the final after they beat Amabutho 2-1 in the semi-finals.

Kerr was impressed with Khune, and says he was outstanding throughout the game.

“I thought Khune for the whole game was outstanding,” Kerr said in the post match press conference.

“Because he’s not played for a long, long time. And, you know, to come into this competition, expectations are all on this keeper, because of who he is, the massive personality that he is in South African football.

“So for me, I thought if there was a man of the match, he deserved that today because he saved us. And with the goal that they scored him he made a great save. Unfortunately, we didn’t react to the rebound.

Kerr was impressed by Khune throughout the week.

“He’s not let himself down,” Kerr continued.

“I mean, good, professional, good attitude. I mean, he’s worked his socks off for me in the last two days, I don’t think he realised the amount of work that goalkeepers have to make when they do a training session with me, because it’s all about crossing and finishing, shooting.

“Even the small sided games we played, they’re always involved. So yeah, credit to him.

“I mean, he made one save in the in the second half, we were under pressure, remember that 20 minutes, I said that we kind of lost a shape and with substitutions that we made, and he kept us in the game and that’s what he’s there for, to do that, take my hat off to him.”
