Khanye – What Foster Needs In Bafana

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says it shouldn’t matter which leagues South African players play in but should be given a chance to also impress the national team coach.

Khanye’s comments come after Bafana Bafana’s 1-1 draw with Panama in the first of two international frieldies played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday.

Striker Lyle Foster and Sphephelo ‘Yaya’ Sithole who play in the English and Portuguese top-flight leagues respectively were preferred starts for coach Hugo Broos in attack and in midfield.

Foster missed at least three chances in the game with Khanye saying the Burnley man should have stood out in the game and that he really he needs competition in the national team.

“Foster should have been the difference,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“And going back to the coach sometimes we don’t have to look at the league the guy is playing in. If it was [Iqraam] Rayners, he’s proved himself in top tournaments like the Club World Cup. He should have played in a game like this.

“I’ve seen Foster miss chances like today but you have to have trust in players like Rayners. I mean play him and let Foster watch so he can have that hunger to burry chances.”

The former South African junior international also felt that Sithole did not offer the team much and that Jayden Adams and Thalente Mbatha should have been given a chance to start.

“Also Yaya his league shouldn’t matter,” added Khanye.

“Start Jayden Adams or Mbatha. Mbatha for me is one of the best currently and you can play him with [Teboho] Mokoena. There’ll be balance and a lot of chances created.”
