Khune Reveals When He’ll Retire

With Itumeleng Khune finding himself on the sidelines at Kaizer Chiefs, the goalkeeper has revealed when he will retire.

The 34-year-old is yet to make an appearance in the DStv Premiership this season but was voted into the DStv Compact Cup line-up of Warriors FC.

He showed a convincing display in Warriors 2-1 win over Amabutho on Saturday, showing that he still has what it takes to push for regular game-time.

Khune also insisted that he’s far from hanging up his boots, making a comparison to Italian veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

“I’ll retire when I’m older than Buffon,” he said, when asked by iDiski Times about how many more years he’s left in his locker.

“Buffon is how old now? [44] Yeah, so I’ll retire after him. I still have maybe 10 more years.

“To be quite honest, I’m making a good investment in myself, even investing in the gym at home.

“I do a lot of extra at my workplace and even when I get home I’m motivated to do extra to be in good shape because obviously my body is my investment.

“When I invest in my body, it can take me to 40+, so that’s what I’m praying for.

“It’s in my hands, I have to work hard to achieve that.”

So far, Khune has made over 300 appearances for Amakhosi since his debut in August 2007.
