KZN Floods Affect Hollywoodbets Super League Start

SAFA have confirmed that the scheduled Hollywoodbets Super League match between Durban Ladies and Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) on Saturday will not go on.

The match was among the six opening matches of the season which was scheduled for a much earlier kick off at Chartsworth stadium.

SAFA Manager of football business Mzwandile Maforvane says the match will not play due to the conditions left by the devastating floods in Kwa Zulu Natal in the last couple of weeks. Over 400 people died in the natural disaster while other families are still looking for loved ones. Maforvane says there were human elements to consider in their decision.

“Given that we had the floods, that would tell you that the venues that we have to use might not be in excellent condition as one would expect them to be. So we had to take that into consideration and again look at the families. You might have one of two members that are affected by this disaster. So it would unfair for us to expect them to play under these conditions” Maforvane told iDiski Times.

Both clubs have been informed of the developments with Maforvane saying they will find a new date to accommodate the fixture in the future, perhaps during an international window provided the clubs involved don’t have players in the national team.

Maforvane further says the two fixtures playing in Giyani on Sunday will be broadcast on Television. The match between MaIndies Ladies against the two time defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies scheduled for a 15:00 kickoff and the one between

First Touch Ladies and Tsunami Queen at 11:30. Maforvane says they are competing for spots with DSTV premiership matches on the national broadcaster SABC.

Other fixtures on Saturday involve Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies against newcomers Vasco da Gama at the Central University of technology, the other rookies City Lads host University of the Western Cape (UWC) at Wolfson stadium, Coal City Wizards are at home to University of Johannesburg (UJ) at the Puma stadium,

Golden Ladies against Thunderbirds Ladies at the NWU stadium and JVW against Richmond United at the stadium. All these games kickoff at 15;00.

The league is boosting 16 clubs this season and the sides that finish in the bottom two will get relegated automatically to make way for those that finish in the top two at the Sasol League national championships.
