Former Bafana Bafana international Lance Davids has sent his condolences to the family of Anele Ngcongca, who tragically passed away in a car accident this morning.
Davids, who played alongside Ngcongca in the Bafana set up, also spent many years playing against the former Racing Genk defender, when Davids was at Lierse in Belgium.
Davids still resides in Belgium, where Ngcongca is still held in high regard after his many achievements at Genk.
“Wow, I’m actually speechless, you know because, five, six months ago (in Belgium) they just did the Genk team of the century, and he was part of the squad hey, he was with Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois, Christian Benteke, he was part of that squad, he won the league,” Davids told iDiski Times.
“It’s just sad, sad, you know we sitting here talking football, talking about Cape Town players, it’s just said, I have no words. All I can say is I send my deepest condolences to his family.”
Ngcongca had returned home to South Africa in 2016, and had spent the past four seasons at Mamelodi Sundowns, however he had just joined Amazulu on loan, when this tragedy hit.
The Capetonian had been discovered at the now defunct FC Fortune, a club formed by another former Bafana Bafana player Quinton Fortune.
He moved to Belgium in 2007 and spent almost a decade at Genk, though did have a loan spell in France in 2015/2016, where he played for ESTAC Troyes.
iDiski Times joins with the football fraternity in sending condolences to friends and family of the late player.
