Lentjies – It’s Like Do Or Die For Us
Chippa United midfielder Kurt Lentjies says that it’s all about getting the three points as they go into their penultimate game of the DStv Premiership season against Tshakhuma on Wednesday.
Chippa are currently 15th, which is the promotion/relegation playoff spot, and with just two games remaining they will be desperate for the three points.
Chippa are two points behind Stellenbosch, and four points behind TTM, so as Lentjies says, it’s ‘do or die’, for the Gqeberha-based team. If they fail to win and Stellenbosch beat TS Galaxy, it will mean they cannot move up the table.
There is also still a concern that bottom-placed Black Leopards could catch up with them. Leopards are three points behind Chippa, though Chippa do have a superior goal difference of nine.
With Lehlohonolo Seema having replaced Vladislav Heric for the remainder of the season, Lentjies says they’ve had a few days to understand the coach’s philosophy, but the only thing that matters on Wednesday is getting the win.
“Ja, no, the mood is good in the camp,” Lentjies told the club’s media department.
“Luckily, we had a couple of days to work with the coach. So it’s good for us we have this time to understand his philosophy and the way he wants to play.
“But obviously, performance is not that important. The result is more important than anything else. Ja, the only plan is, obviously to get the three points.
“We know the situation, we know where we find ourselves for the next two games. So we have two cup finals coming ahead, but let’s focus on TTM first, obviously, with a with a good result, whether we play away or home, we need to win at all costs.
The veteran has been in good form lately, but he says it’s not about personal glory now.
“Ja, no, now it’s not about personal goals and glory now it’s just about the team,” Lentjies continues.
“And it’s always been like that, for me, I don’t look at my own performance. I’d rather look at how I can make the team better from an individual point of view, from leading. So for me to be influential in the team, with the players that’s the only thing that’s important to me and getting the three points.”
Lentjies reiterated that getting the win is all that counts, but warns that TTM will also be desperate.
“Very important. It’s like do or die for us and do or die for them also. So I think the team that wants it more will walk away victorious,” he concluded.
