Royal AM Head Coach John Maduka was proud of his team for a hard fought 4-1 win over TS Galaxy in the DStv Premiership on Saturday afternoon.
The victory sees second-placed Royal AM become the second team to reach the forty point mark.
Maduka, who was just awarded the DStv Coach of the Month for February/March, was proud of his team.
Maduka said the game was a lot tougher than the scoreline may suggest, and his team had to work really hard to get the result
“A very good result for us, we knew that it was going to be a very, very difficult game,” Maduka told the club’s media department.
“But the boys did put themselves in the right away, and we managed to get the three points that we needed. Going to the game itself, I think we started very well, we managed to score the goal from the wide area, because we knew that it’s a team that use the ball so well.
“And again, when they go forward, they go forward with numbers, then we knew that the only time that we can be able to get them it’s on transition from defence to attack, which it did benefit as well whereby we managed to score the first goal through Victor Letsoalo, but earlier Ndumiso crossed the ball in the area, and Letsoalo managed to head the goal.
“We managed to score the second goal, then after we scored the second goal, I think we relaxed a little bit, and you could see it coming because they were so many times in our box, and when you are defending in your box, any touch that you make in the box, you understand, can end up free-kick or a penalty, and which we saw. I’m not sure about it if the contact was really enough for the ref to give a penalty, but I was far from him, maybe he was closer to it, then ja, there’s nothing I can say about that.
“After that, they got the penalty, they managed to score that, we went halftime, 2-1 leading, which was a very very dangerous score.
“They were motivated because they had nothing to lose, we know that they will take the game to us. They did exactly that. And we managed to get them on counterattack, on transition from defence to attack, which managed to help us score the third goal through the transition, the transition, defence to attack and they committed a foul which helped us in order to get the free-kick which Mabena managed to score.
“That was 3-1 and after that in transition again, because we knew that they’ll continue coming at us, we managed again to win the ball, because we knew that most of the time on the wide area they were open, because in the team Munyai was going up, Sello was going up, even maybe Sanoka and Msimango, and we knew that, immediately win the ball, we play into those areas. Thikazi again, very good goal, scored the fourth goal.
“Happy for the boys, they work very hard. It was not an easy game.
“But people might think that 4-1 maybe it was an easy game, but not an easy game but the boys. put up a fight, a good performance. So proud of the boys. “
