Orbit College head coach Pogiso Makhoye has put up a challenge for playmaker Monnapule Saleng who’s yet to make an impact following his loan move from Orlando Pirates.
Saleng has had a difficult year where there have been more question marks around his future until he completed a loan move to the newly promoted side – a move that seemed the best to revive his once promising career though it’s been a slow start since.
Speaking to Andile Ncube on Metro FM, Makhoya mentioned that the team played a quality game against Pirates when they lost 1-0 and Saleng was not part of the team as he is not allowed to face his mother club. On Saturday, Mswenko Boys suffered a 3-0 defeat against TS Galaxy at home and Makhoye felt that was a poor performance especially with the return of Saleng to the team.
“So far, I think he is not giving us what we expected from him as a big player, a player that comes with this big name,” Makhoye told Metro FM.
“So, those are the things that we need to sit down and check as a team to say, is he really affecting the team? Are we playing better when he is on the team or when he is not on the team?
“So, those are things we need to look at. Those are the things that we need to assess in these two weeks. We had a conversation with him also to say you need to up your game. Because we played a top game on Tuesday, you came back to the team, and we became a different team – negatively. Because on Tuesday everybody was working, everybody could run.
“Now the weight is on him, when he is not [playing] everyone is putting that 110%, but when he is in the field, the players tend to say we rely on you [Saleng] to lead us.”
