Malesela – It’s A Team That Can Compete

Newly appointed Chippa United Coach says that they have had to work hard and fast to prepare for Wednesday’s DSTV Premiership game against SuperSport United.

Malesela was unveiled by the club last week, returning to a club he is quite familiar with, having coached at Chippa on three previous occasions.

He had only just been let go of by TS Galaxy, where he had been in charge since the start of the season.

Malesela, speaking in a digital press conference on Monday, said he has been impressed by the response he has got from the players so far.

“I think we’ve had to do things speedily because of the time, we don’t have time. We’ve already put in about nine sessions so the adaptation is okay from the players, the response is good, which is very impressive. I actually was surprised by the response I got from the players,” Malesela said in his first press conference since being unveiled.

“Although there were players that I worked with before, but there are very few, a lot of the players who are here are very new to me. But the response in terms of listening to the instructions at training has been very good.”

Malesela was last in charge at Chippa in 2018, and he has been impressed by the quality of this current squad, and while he doesn’t like to compare, he feels they could be stronger than when he was last at the club.

“Look, ja, there are quite a lot of impressive players, but they have to understand where I’m trying to drive them at, and also understand each other first.”

“One thing I realise is that sometimes players play, the bulk of the time, they play for themselves, as opposed to for the team, so that’s what we’re trying to put in here.”

“But, to be honest, it’s a fairly better squad, I don’t like comparing, because sometimes you compare and other people get upset, and sometimes you compare, but it’s not the same, you know, but it’s a reasonable team, it’s a team that can compete.”
