Royal AM President Shauwn Mkhize says it’s about time people of KwaZulu-Natal enjoy a Durban Derby the same way the whole country enjoys the Soweto Derby.
MaMkhize as she is affectionately known, says she wants the KZN derby to be more entertaining, as she compared it to the Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The two teams head to the game both in the top eight in the DStv Premiership standings, as Royal AM are third, while Usuthu occupied eighth spot.
“Soccer has been there for quite some time. And it’s always been about the Soweto Derby,” Mkhize said on SportsNightLive.
“So we thought it’s about time that we rise the KZN flag high, we have got four brilliant teams in KZN, and it’s about time that we raise the KZN flag high and say, if we are doing the derby, let us do it in a way that soccer used to be in a way that’s supposed to be.
“Soccer is supposed to be fun, soccer is supposed to be entertaining, soccer is supposed to be a game of choice whereby everybody can see their clubs, and they made within their club, and the supporters are not being allowed in our stadium now.
“We are saying KZN, enjoy this KZN derby, take it and run with it, it’s yours. It is the biggest team AmaZulu which has been there for quite some time, they are facing the Royalties, the new team in the block.
“But I think it’s going to be such an interesting game the two qualities, which is the coach (John) Maduka, coach Benni McCarthy who have also been played a crucial role on the soccer field.
“So, this is going to be a very interesting that the players are up and ready. They need to showcase their talents and this is going to be fun.”
The first Derby between Usuthu and AM game takes place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon at 15:30.
