Manqoba Mngqithi says he was delighted with the team spirit shown by his Mamelodi Sundowns team, after they fought back with ten men to beat Black Leopards on Wednesday.
Peter Shalulile scored a brace as Sundowns came from a goal down to beat Leopards 2-1 in the DStv Premiership, after Ovidy Karuru had given Lidoda Duvha the lead.
Sundowns were reduced to ten men when Mothobi Mvala was sent off for a professional foul.
Mngqithi says he was pleased with the spirited performance, and the impact the substitutes made in the game.
“I think it was a good game, we had a very good first half,” Mngqithi said after the game.
“But again we gave them a little more space and kept retreating, and we had to fight with the team because we were giving them time and it looked like they were coming at us. But still we got some chances in the process, but we did not utilise them.”
“And a very good comeback from the team after Mvala got a red card. I think the substitutions that us coaches did played a very big role. A Very good performance, a very spirited performance, with a lot of hard work, a lot of intensity, and a hunger for success, something that we’ve always been demanding.”
“Sundowns can not be playing draws all along, it was good, maybe it was also good for our season ahead, to know that when we are one nil down, we can still fight and win the game.”
