Maritzburg Sign Former Ajax Captain

Maritzburg United have made their first signing since Ernst Middendorp took over as Head Coach.

Former Ajax Cape Town captain Travis Graham was announced by the club on Friday evening, after being a free agent since the end of last season.

Graham had spent last season at Cape Umoya United (now known as Cape United). Prior to that Graham had a short stint at Cape Town City.

The central midfielder came through the ranks of Ajax Cape Town and stepped up from the youth team to become a key member of Roger De Sa’s team a few years, and was named captain at a very young age. He was captain when Ajax won the MTN8 trophy in 2015.

But a year after De Sa left the club, Graham spent a season in limbo, after making it known that he wanted to leave the club.

He sat out of football for a season before his contract ran out and he left as a free agent. But he struggled to find a club, and while he reportedly had trials overseas, they never bore fruit.

Eventually he re-surfaced at City two seasons ago.
