Mathoho Writes CAF History For Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho has written CAF Champions League history for his club in a record-breaking campaign for Amakhosi.

The 31-year-old was once again a key player for his side, who advanced to the knockout stages of the competition in their first ever group stage appearance.

Chiefs secured their qualification for the next round where they can now face Mamelodi Sundowns, Simba or ES Tunis.

In a campaign where Chiefs sent records tumbling, Mathoho also wrote his name in the club’s history books after becoming the first Amakhosi player to score in three different CAF Champions League campaigns.

Mathoho has netted twice this season already, his first in the preliminary round against PWD Bamenda and the second against Petro Luanda during the group stage.

He also scored once in the 2013/14 campaign, striking once in a 4-0 first-round victory over Muculmana, before finding the back of the net twice in another 4-0 win over Volcan Club in the preliminary round in 2016.
