Day three of the Bayhill Premier Cup saw goals galore and a surprise result as Mamelodi Sundowns lost in their second game of the tournament.
Maties FC surprised Sundowns, who had started their campaign with a good win on Thursday. But on Tuesday, Maties’ defence held strong as they ran out 2-1 winners over the Tshwane giants’ U19 team.
Matroosfontein picked up a 2-1 win over last year’s finalists Randburg AFC, while there were goals galore as Stars of Africa beat Hungry Lions 6-0, Chippa United beat Juventus AFC 6-1, and Virginia Football Academy hammered Two For Joy FC 7-0.
Rygersdal, meanwhile, beat Tanzania’s Elite Pro Academy 2-1, Shayamoya Academy beat Aberdeen 2-0, while the SAFA Cape Town team bounced back from their defeat to Sundowns on Thursday with a 3-0 win over Jacaranda FC.
AmaTuks continued their good form as they beat Windhoek Gymnasium 3-0, and joined Stars of Africa from Group G in the last 16.
Hosts Bayhill United also confirmed their place in the knockout stage, beating Bolobathaba United 2-0. They join Antalyaspor JPM from Group A.
In the main game of the day, after the opening ceremony, defending champions Ubuntu Academy made it two wins in two as they beat Premier United 3-0.
The final knockout places will be decided in the final group games on Saturday.
