The Mayambela Foundation will be hosting their annual Hollywoodbets Mayambela Community Cup at the Khayelitsha Stadium in April and have linked up with iDiski Times as media parter.
The U21 tournament, where 32 male teams and eight female teams, mainly from in and around Cape Town will compete, will be held over the Easter weekend, from 15 to 18 April.
While there is a cash prize of R30,000 for the winners, the tournament founded by brothers Mark and Mihlali Mayambela, was created to give young people living in the townships an opportunity to showcase their talents.
After the tournament, which is sponsored by Hollywoodbets, there will be a selection made of the best players, and these players will go on a three-week programme with recently retired Mark, who has turned his focus to coaching.
The older Mayambela brother, who played for Bloemfontein Celtic, Orlando Pirates, Djurgardens, Cape Town City, Ajax Cape Town, Royal Eagles and Chippa United, will then lead the team in friendlies against elite teams from around the area, allowing the players to showcase their talents to those clubs.
There will also be a number of other youth programmes run concurrently with the tournament, where workshops will unpack and assist in personal development and mental issues.
We’re also glad to announce that the Mark Mayambela Community Cup has linked up with iDiski Times to cover the tournament as a media partner.
