Mayo – Why Chiefs Are Struggling
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana player Patrick Mayo has explained why Amakhosi are struggling under new coach Stuart Baxter this season.
The Glamour Boys have not lifted any silverware since being crowned league champions under Baxter in the 2014/15 season.
Many fans thought that the Englishman would bring back immediate success to Naturena but Amakhosi have struggled to collect wins in the first part of the campaign.
Mayo, though, believes that new Chiefs new signings still need to get used to how the team plays, which he believes is the main reason why the Glamour Boys have only collected six points in six DStv Premiership games so far.
“After the changes that they made, there was a big gap and this is why Chiefs is stumbling, but people tend to forget that Chiefs is a brand,” Mayo told iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago.
“They want Chiefs to perform overnight, and it is not something that will happen like that. If you look at the players that Chiefs has brought in, they need to adapt and adjust to the style of play of Kaizer Chiefs.
“They must just be patient with the coach and give him time to fix this team, otherwise it is not how you start in the league, it is how you finish.
“You can have a very bad start and end up finishing on top of the log, it is a marathon.”
