McCarthy Reacts To Usuthu Draw

AmaZulu FC Coach Benni McCarthy’s has reacted after his team draw with Chippa United in the Dstv Premiership.

McCarthy saw his side draw come back from 2-0 down to 2-2 draw against the Chilli Boys, collecting their seventh consecutive stalemate in the league.

The former Bafana Bafana striker insisted that his players do not panic on the ball, but also admitted that Chippa put them under-pressure.

“Credit to Chippa, I think where they are in the league and to come to high press from the off and made us make mistakes and I usually think we are very calm and composed on the ball,” McCarthy said after the match.

“We hardly panic at the back but ja, they put us under pressure, and it unfolded, and they got the opening goal in that manner.

“And then again from a high press, where they win the ball high up in the pitch and play the ball to (Bienvenu) Eva Nga and the speed and the power seem to have been a little too much to handle for our two central-defence, and he got in.

“So they got the second goal and from there, and you’ll see your team really struggling and not sticking to the basics that we were supposed to do, the tactics, the game plan because we played Chippa three days prior to that and nothing has changed.

“They made one change from the squad that they fielded against us. And we had a few changes to freshen up the team so that we can have that little push and second half we looked extremely flat-footed.

“But second half something had to give.”
