AmaZulu head coach Benni McCarthy is feeling upbeat ahead of his side’s clash with Kaizer Chiefs, saying he is set to welcome back eight “starting XI players” to the squad this week.
McCarthy’ troops beat Baroka 1-0 at Kings Park Stadium on Saturday to register their first win in the league this season.
The former Bafana Bafana striker said his team will continue to fight and compete with all teams in the league after securing their first league win of the season.
“We can also fight hard, and we can grind, and we can compete with teams. So today it’s showed us a different character to the AmaZulu that people became to know under my guidance and leadership, so very happy for the boys,” he said after the match.
“I think they’ve showed that everything that we’ve achieved last season, they still have the same desire, the same drive to want to achieve this season, it’s just been a little of a different ride.
“But we still have that same ambition, that we want to achieve well, but I’m very happy with the performance. And I think now we have a week until we play our next game.
“But ja, the three points is fantastic. So now we find ourselves at the top end of the league again, and I think that’s where we want to be, and we strive for so today’s result was a very, very hard and difficult fought one. But we are delighted with the three points that we got.”
McCarthy also confirmed that some players who were not in the squad again Baroka, will be coming back in the next game.
“And in this week we can bring back the likes of (Augustine) Mulenga, Thabo Qalinge, Xola Mlambo, (Thembela) Sikhakhane, Philani Zulu and Tercious Malepe comes back from suspension,” he added.
“We get Kgotso Moleko back, so we get about eight players that last season was undisputed, starting 11 players.”
AmaZulu moved up to seventh on the table, and will face Chiefs next when they host the Amakhosi at Kings Park Stadium on Saturday, 2 October.
