Middendorp Laments Late Mistake

Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp said that while his team and their new signings still have to gel, he was not happy with the manner in how they conceded as they were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by SuperSport United.

Iqraam Rayners scored a late goal, as SuperSport hit them on the counter attack to click a 1-0 win in their round of 32 game on Wednesday.

Middendorp started four new signings, and said they need to be patient as they assemble a new team, but even with that it was disappointing to lose in the manner that they did.

“Ja, it’s a typical match, when you haven’t played for a long time, our last game, competitive, was on the 22nd of December,” Middendorp told Maritzburg’s media department.

“It’s now than six weeks ago, we had a preseason of around five weeks, we had a number of new players in the squad and a number of new players starting.

“Ja, commitment, okay. But we can see it’s not around that, it’s not in a way how we are cooperating, or we expect to cooperate, it’s not really the way as we want to see it.

“But good on the other side, as I said with all this changes in the moment, we have to be a little bit patient. But despite, it’s a bit of unnecessary how we concede in the end of the game, in our forward movement, there’s no need to lose a ball in this stage, managed it absolutely not adequate.

“And that’s a disappointment, that you’re losing with such individual error, and we are talking about again and again.

“We gave them the possibilities when we do in this forward movement, we losing easily the balls, inviting an opponent to the counter and then boom.

“We have to show more responsibility.”
