Middendorp Says Arrows Win A Big Confidence Booster
Maritzburg United Head Coach Ernst Middendorp says their mid-week victory over Golden Arrows in the KZN derby is a big confidence boost as they head to the tail end of the DStv Premiership season.
The Team of Choice have climbed to 12th position on the table, and they could take one step closer to safety on the weekend when they face 15th-placed Tshakhuma in the only DStv Premiership game of the weekend.
It is basically a six pointer, as TTM are currently three points behind Maritzburg, and speaking after their 3-2 win over Arrows, Middendorp says while you don’t get more points for winning a derby, it is a huge confidence boost going forward.
“You’re not getting more points for it, let’s take it from that side, but it provides a certain confidence inside Kwazulu-Natal,” Middendorp said after the mid-week victory.
“And compliment to both teams, AmaZulu and Golden Arrows for having a fantastic position in the top three, top four, doing a fantastic job, there’s no doubt about it.
“Now, you want to come a little bit more close, you want to come a little bit into the direction that you say, ‘hey, here we are, we we also are a Kwazulu-Natal team and doing a good job.’
“So this is definitely something where if you feel around the club, around the environment, these are the voices, and good, of course it helps definitely to position ourselves a little bit more with confidence into this direction, that we are competitive too.”
Interestingly, Middendorp’s Maritzburg have collected 26 points since the German took charge on match day five, which is one more than Middendorp’s former side Kaizer Chiefs over the same period.
