Mkhalele Reveals Bafana Captains

Bafana Bafana assistant Helman Mkhalele has confirmed who will be South Africa’s first and second captains in the first game of the Hugo Broos reign.

Mkhalele is one of the two Broos assistants but will be in charge of the tie against Uganda after the Belgium tactician had to travel back home to get his second Covid-19 vaccine, while Cedomir Janevski tested positive for Covid-19 in the Bafana camp.

‘Midnight Express’ met media ahead of the friendly against Uganda on Thursday, 18:00, and revealed that Ronwen Williams will captain Bafana after Thulani Hlatshwayo was not called up to the squad.

“Yes, we have decided, we have decided that he (Williams) is going to be the captain and also he will be seconded by Innocent Manila,” he explained.

“But you know what I said to the players? I said, you are all captains you know you are the ones who should be deciding, you know, the future or deciding what should be happening on the field of play. So all of them they need to play that role.

“But yes, of course we need to have someone who will be wearing that armband.”

South Africa will face Uganda at the Orlando Stadium at 18:00 on Thursday.
