Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has clarified why their CAF Champions League match against Al Hilal will played at Royal Bafokeng Stadium.
CAF inspectors had ruled out the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, Loftus Versveld and the Tuks Stadium for various reasons.
Mngqithi explained that this season the inspectors were a lot stricter on a number of issues, and he is interested to see which other venues across the continent have been blocked by the new regulations.
“Playing in Rustenburg, it is a result of our stadiums not making it in terms of the evaluation that FIFA made of our stadiums,” Mngqithi told the media.
“Lucas (Moripe) could not make it, Loftus also and also Tuks, in terms of what they wanted now in the in the group stages of the competition, which is a little bit stiff compared to the previous seasons.
“If our stadiums, that we believe are so good, could not make it, then one is waiting to see what will be happening out there in the stadiums that we are going to be playing in?
“But that is the main reason why that moved.”
