Mngqithi Reacts Lakay, Mudau & Rivaldo Bafana Call-Ups

Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed delight after the recent Bafana Bafana call-ups for Khuliso Mudau, Lyle Lakay and Rivaldo Coetzee.

Mngqithi was speaking as Sundowns prepare to host Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stage match at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Mngqithi, who had recently spoken of his belief that Mudau deserved a chance, says their call-ups are well deserved, but added there are others he also thought could have got the nod.

Five Sundowns players are in Hugo Broos’ latest squad, with Rushine De Reuck and Teboho Mokoena also in the list.

“I’m particularly happy with the new call ups of Mudau, Lyle Lakay and Rivado Coetzee because I believe they’ve done exceptionally well,” Mngqithi said.

“They’ve always deserved an opportunity, and I was saying the other day to the journalists that I think it’s high time Mudau gets an opportunity to play at that level, because I think he has shown a big improvement.

“I think he’s improved in leaps and bounds since he joined Sundowns, and if you were to compare his performances of last season vis-a-vis his performances now, you will agree with me that he is at the right level to really stamp his authority in the national team.

“But be it as it may, I think I might be greedy or what, but I think we still have far more players that deserve an opportunity in the national team. But time is always the best judge.”
