Mngqithi – We Want To Dominate The Continent

Mamelodi Sundowns co Head Coach Manqoba Mngqithi has praised his side for winning the DStv Premiership title but says they want to dominate in the CAF Champions League.

Sundowns confirmed their league title on Wednesday when they beat SuperSport United 3-1 at Loftus Stadium, to move to 60 points, ten points clear of second-placed AmaZulu, with just three games to play in the season.

Mngqithi says he is very happy for everyone at the club for the hard work they’ve put in this year.

“I must say I’m very happy with all the players, they work very hard throughout the year,” Mngqithi said in the post match presser.

“The technical team – coach Rulani coach Steve, coach Wendell, the analysts, the medical department, the conditioning department, the support staff, the kit department, everybody around us the management of the club, the board and the president for having given us an opportunity to lead the team.

“And we may have wanted to continue even in the Champions League but at least when we’ve got a result like this, in a game where we still have three games to go, it really helps in motivating the team and making everybody realize that we have worked really hard for it.

“I will be making a mistake if I, if I thank my family for, for the championship. I think that will be a mistake, the best thing I can do is to thank the families of all the members of the technical team, the families of all the players, the administration staff, and everybody in the team because these families are the ones that suffer the most.”

Mngqithi added that while they’re disappointed to be out of the Champions League, by winning the league they have at least confirmed they can have another chance next season.

“We had a hiccup and we are going again,” Mngqithi said.

“And we have guaranteed ourselves that possibility by winning the league, that we are going back to the Champions League to fight for our space. And sooner than later, we should be in a position to dominate that space of the continent.”
