Mngqithi Won’t Take Celtic For Granted
Manqoba Mngqithi says that Mamelodi Sundowns face a tough opponent on Wednesday in the DStv Premiership, but he is confident his league-winning team will be able to break down Bloemfontein Celtic.
Having already secured the title, Sundowns will be looking for a result at the Dr Molemela Stadium, and keep their unbeaten record in away games this season.
But Mngqithi warns that Celtic have always been a team that has caused Sundowns problems.
“I think the preparations have gone very well,” Mngqithi told the club’s media department.
“It was just unfortunate to lose Themba Zwane in our game against Swallows, but Modiba is also coming back, which is very good for us. We don’t have too many injuries at this stage. We only have Kermit out, we have Makgalwa out, but generally the squad is in a very good space and it’s promising to give us an interesting match.
“Bloemfontein Celtic has always given us a very big run for our money. They are very organized team, playing some very good football, which makes our life very difficult in most cases.
“But we do believe we’ve got a team that is capable of breaking them down. We have looked at their matches, profiled their players that they have been using of late and they are not as potent as they were before, but they can hurt you if you take them for granted. And it’s a game we have to win at all costs, we want to give it our best shot.
“We think our boys are a little bit more professional. We did not have a very good start against Swallows. There were many conditions, the pitch was also not very good. But I also think the players did not understand how important it was for us to fight fora result in that match.
“But as soon as we spoke to them, and they picked their game up and they started showing the signs that they want to do it, it was unfortunate not to come back with a result from there. There are many other circumstances that I think also hindered the progress of the team on the day, but it’s all promising.”
