Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mnqgithi has previewed their Nedbank Cup encounter against Richards Bay.
Speaking at the Nedbank Cup launch ceremony in Sandton on Tuesday, Downs’ coach has revealed his concern ahead of the upcoming match against GladAfrica Championship log leaders.
Mnqgithi says they are not taking any comfort when they play the KwaluZulu-Natal outfits who once surprisingly knocked out Kaizer Chiefs previously in the Nedbank Cup.
“Like I said before, personally, and you can ask my players, the most difficult matches for me are those where I must be the one motivating the players to go fight,” he said ahead of the match.
“When I play Chiefs, I play Pirates, I play SuperSport, players also know within them, they have to win the match but on matches where everyone expects you to win, you have to dig a little deeper.
“We have tried to put a very good culture in the team to try to win every match that we play because of the same reasons. Be it a friendly, practice match, be it a small sides game—we always fight for a result.
“I think that might carry us through,, but one must fully understand that playing against a team that’s currently doing well, number one in the NFD, known for beating big teams. Everybody has this expectation that they will also upset us—but the good thing is that it’s not a secret that they are giant killers.
“They have killed so many giants, we don’t want to come out in history as another giant that was killed by Richards Bay.”
Sundowns will visit Richards Bay at Princess Magogo Stadium on Friday, with the match penciled for 18h00.
