Mntambo Reveals Truth About Wonder-goal

Orlando Pirates midfielder Linda Mntambo has revealed the truth about his wonder-goal against Royal AM on Thursday evening.

The 32-year-old beat goalkeeper Patrick Nyame with a beautiful shot from the right side of the pitch just before half-time to equalise Royal AM’s earlier lead.

However, he confirmed after the match that he did indeed attempt a cross and it went wayward into the back of the net.

“I think even though the game didn’t start of well, but I grew into the game as the game went on,” he told SuperSport TV.

“Luck was on my side, I attempted a cross but it went on to be a goal. It wasn’t intended, but I think I can build on that, work more off the field, follow the coaches instructions and just stay humble.”

Mntambo also insisted that his side need to start picking up three points after failing to win any of the last three matches.

“Coming into the game against a strong opponent, I think we created a lot of chances in the first half, when we should’ve buried them,” he added.

“But they scored first, which put us on the pressure. The plan for the game was to get three points, we haven’t been winning.

“We need to get points, we are where we are, we’re not even in the chasing pack and it’s still early in the season but teams are getting points.

“I think for us it is of paramount importance that we collecting maximum points.”

Pirates next face Sekhukhune United at home on Tuesday, 2 November.
