Mokwena Comments On Downs Victory
Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena was full of praise for his troops after a victory over Maritzburg United.
Masandawana beat the Team of Choice 1-0 to keep their winning run at Loftus Versveld Stadium on Wednesday in the DStv Premiership.
Downs remain on top of the log with 22 points after eight games in the league so far, and they haven’t conceded any goal. In fact they have now set a record of 11 consecutive clean sheets, breaking an 18-year-old record held by Bidvest Wits.
“Congratulations to the technical staff, Manqoba, Steve, Wendell and the rest of the support structure and congratulations to the Mamelodi Sundowns supporters. Another win and the happiness is preserved,” he said after the game.
“It was a difficult game against good opposition with a good coach, a coach we have a lot of respect for and for one I feel adds a lot of value to South African football. Not very easy from a tactical perspective to dominate a team like this.
“It’s difficult for us as a team because we’re the only ones responsible for setting the intensity and tempo of the match – that’s not always easy against a tactically flexible side. But at the end of the day, we just got the job done.”
