Mokwena Gives Downs Injury Update

Mamelodi Sundowns co-head coach Rulani Mokwena has given an injury update after their 2-0 win over Sekhukhune United at Tuks Stadium on Saturday.

Mokwena and the league leaders returned to winning ways in the game against Babiba Noko, having drawn two games, against Cape Town City and SuperSport United.

The 34-year-old tactician has now opened up on what to expect from Lebohang Maboe, who has a long-term injury, as well as Gift Motupa and Sphelele Mkhulise, and explained why Rivaldo Coetzee was absent in their four past games before Sekhukhune.

“Riva (Coetzee) had a contusion just a muscular complication, but he hasn’t trained fully with the team, but we’ve got a couple of situations, and we had to fast track his return, but the medical department has done fantastic work to try to get Riva back,” Mokwena told reporters.

“He (Maboe) is actually progressing extremely well, training individually now, but after that, we still predict a long-term length from levels still not close even to taking part into team training.

“(Sphelele) Mkhulise has got a health issues, we have got a couple of health issues in our team. There is a small flu bug that is going around the team, so a lot of our players who are on that list have been out because of medical complications.

“And I think if you understand the importance of privacy in relation to medical prognosis, then you will understand why can’t I divulge more into the issue or health related.

“(Gift) Motupa there is a muscular complication and with soft issue injuries, you have got to be very, very careful because if you rush, and you don’t go through the right sort of rehabilitation process then you risk having this player out for even longer.

“An important player for us, Gift Motupa, like all the other players, but a good medical department working on him, and we have got a very strong medical department that is working very hard to make sure that this player return as quickly as possible.”

The log leaders will face Stellenbosch at Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday in the DStv Premiership clash.
