Mamelodi Sundowns Co-Head Coach Rulani Mokwena says they are going to have improvise a bit against Swallows FC on the weekend due to player unavailabilities.
Mokwena was speaking ahead of Saturday’s top of the table clash in the DStv Premiership. Sundowns are currently top, ahead of Swallows on goal difference, with both teams still unbeaten in the league.
It is in defence that Mokwena is particularly concerned, as there are a number of key players out for the game.
“Ja, without the keys plays it’s been tough, the preparations have been tough but we’ve got enough within the squad,” Mokwena told the club’s media department.”
We’re a little bit thin at the moment with regards to the defensive line. Medically we’re without Ricardo Nascimento, medically we’re without Lyle Lakay, medically we’re without Bangaly Soumangharo, and for medical reasons we are without Mudau, it leaves us very, very thin in that department. And then we were dealt a huge blow by losing Brian Onyango with a grade two thigh injury and that sets us back a little bit.”
“We have see how to improvise and be creative in how we solve the situation, maybe it’s to play a back three at the back, with inverted fullbacks, maybe it’s to play like Swallows with only two at the back, we don’t know how we’re going to do this but we’ll find solutions, we’ve got enough within in the team to adapt.”
“Unfortunately at this time we’ve got a huge hospital ward, but these are problems that every club is facing.”
