Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane says Europe is not ready for African coaches despite the continent producing several astute tacticians.
Mosimane believes that coaching in Europe as an African it’s not about how good you are, but how the teams trust you, which he thinks European teams do not have any trust in African coaches.
The Ahly boss has won three CAF Champions League titles but he recalls having a conversation with former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke – citing the challenges to breakthrough at the world’s biggest clubs.
“Well Europe is not ready for us that’s the fact of the matter, Europe is not ready for Africans,” he said on The Money Show on Radio 702.
“Even those who played there, Dwight Yorke, I had a conversation with Dwight Yorke, I mean [a] superstar of Man United, scoring goals for Man United in England. He told me straight, I was with him and was with Owen Hargreaves and all those guys.
“He told me straight ‘Pitso don’t even think about it. If we have scored so many goals for those teams and we not yet managers when we have badges and qualifications, it’s going to be tough to come over here’.
“And you can see this straight, Europe is not ready for Africans. It’s not how much what you can do. It’s a little of trust and all that so, but we okay we’re doing well, if we’re not here we can go home. We still have a life.”
