Mpisane Switches Boardroom For Pitch

Royal AM chairman Andile Mpisane made a cameo on the pitch for the club’s reserves team in a 2-1 win on Sunday.

The 20-year-old, who is the youngest chairman in the Premier Soccer League, made his professional debut in December 2018 when he came off the bench for Royal Eagles in a win over Witbank Spurs.

He played sparely last season, and had seemingly shifted his focus from the pitch to the boardroom.

However, on Sunday he came on as a second-half substitute in Royal AM’s 2-1 win against Stellenbosch in the Diski Challenge, with a video of his skills making the rounds.

His mother and club president Shauwn Mkhize had confirmed last year that Mpisane had stepped away from playing more regularly to focus on the administrative side of things.

“I think he’s set, he’s going to take a break this time around and allow the players to play and focus mainly on the administrative side of things,” she told Andile Ngcube.

“Because it won’t help him to only play soccer and not have the knowhow and knowledge on the administrative side of things.

“That’s why it is time now to focus on, especially when he’s got the coaches on the club, who have been exposed and has got so much of knowledge about football.

“It’s good for him (Andile) to grab the knowledge from the people who know better about it – like John Maduka. They have been in the soccer fraternity for quite some time, they were players and now as coaches.

“So for him, I think it’s better to know the administrative side and that’s the part he chose for now.”
