Ncikazi – It’s Impossible To Catch Downs

Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has admitted that no team will catch Mamelodi Sundowns on the DStv Premiership table.

Masandawana have been top of the log since the start of the season, and lead the standings with 44 points from 19 league games, 14 points ahead of second-placed Pirates.

However, despite Pirates leading the chasing pack, Ncikazi who joined the Buccaneers at the beginning of this campaign, co-coaching with Fadlu Davids, has seemingly given up on the DStv Premiership title race already.

He insisted the Sea Robbers should instead focus on the Nedbank Cup, because it’s their best chance to add another trophy.

“Every coach wants to win. It’s even more important that management also want to win, Pirates have not won, except for MTN8 in the past eight years, if I’m not mistaken,” he told reporters.

“So it’s important to win if the trend is this big, we must emulate that by getting the results that are equal to the brand. So, it’s important that we do well in the Nedbank.

“It will be a miracle for any team to bridge a gap of 14 points against Sundowns. It’s only Sundowns who can take the [DStv Premiership] cup out of the cabinet for competition.

“So Nedbank gives us an opportunity to play five, if I’m not mistaken, five games, and then you win the cup.

“So we are going to give it a go without making promises and fail if we fail, but we must give an effort, and hopefully, it will be positive for Pirates this time around.”

Ncikazi and his side will face AmaZulu at Orlando Stadium on Sunday in the Nedbank Cup last 32 encounter.
