While rivals Kaizer Chiefs have had a Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena, leading to them failing to honour their last two games, Mandla Ncikazi says Orlando Pirates have been in a bubble for weeks.
This comes after a new coronavirus variant has been detected a few weeks back, which also affected football activities worldwide and in South Africa.
The 52-year-old mentor was full of praise for his team’s management for showing support and great leadership in this difficult situation.
“Firstly, let me thank our management. I thought they were in the forefront, maybe they showed the leadership that is required,” Ncikazi told reporters.
“We have been in the bubble for quite some weeks, really expensive exercise. We have been affected and infected as a club because we are in the same country as all other teams.”
He also said they have been guided by the PSL’s regulations, and they will wait for the league to see if there will be any changes on how to play games going forward.
“But we just governed by the PSL, who made the rules,” he added.
“And we will be guided by them if there’s a change, but currently we are affected, but the measures have been made by our management in terms of MDC players starting to be prepared in case it gets worse.
“But again, we are in the bubble currently, and then one has to thank the management for their vision in trying to accommodate and help the situation.”
