SuperSport United and ten-man TS Galaxy played to a goalless draw in the DStv Premiership at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Friday evening.
SuperSport United 0-0 TS Galaxy
It was an entertaining opening to the game, as both teams looked to unlock each other’s defence, and while there were some great opportunities, they were also missed opportunities.
Ronwen Williams made a good save to deny Khayelihle Shozi from close range in the 23rd minute, and four minutes later the SuperSport captain had to be alert to deny Shozi again.
But at halftime it remained goalless, with Galaxy arguably having the better half overall.
Lindokhule Mbatha had a chance for Galaxy in the 54th minute, but he shot directly at Williams.
It was a similar situation at the other end, as Teboho Mokoena’s attempt in the 60th minute went straight at Marlon Heugh.
Galaxy were reduced to ten men when substitute Sphiwe Mahlangu was shown a straight red card for a foul on Sipho Mbule in the 77th minute. Mahlangu had only come onto the pitch seven minutes earlier.
SuperSport remain second and move onto 34 points, closing the gap on leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to two points, however Kaitano Tembo’s team has played four games more than Sundowns.
Galaxy remain eighth, with 23 points after 18 games.
