48 hours after parting ways with Brandon Truter, Swallows have named Dylan Kerr as his replacement.

Truter, who had promoted the club when they won the GladAfrica Championship in the 2019/2020 season, and his entire technical team were relieved of their duties following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

Kerr will have a big task on his hands, with the club lingering in the bottom spot on the DStv Premiership table, having last won a game in August.

But it is nothing to new to the English coach who will be head coach now of his fourth South African club, following stints at Black Leopards, Baroka and Tshakhuma (now Marumo Gallants).

Kerr will be the club’s third coach.

Having bought their GladAfrica franchise from Maccabi FC in 2019, Swallows appointed former Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques to lead the club, but Marques last just five games.

Truter replaced Marques in September 2019, with the club in 14th position in the GladAfrica, and had a very good two seasons with the club, starting with the promotion. It was an impressive first season in the top flight, and a lot had been expected after Truter led the team to a sixth placed finish last season, losing just twice.

But after a poor start to this season, the writing was on the wall when the club placed Truter on ‘special leave’ after a run of four games without a win. Simo Dladla took charge with Truter away, but found the going as tough, and lost two of the three games he oversaw. Truter returned to the hot seat, but their fortunes didn’t change.
