Cape Town City Head Coach Jan Olde Riekerink is hoping to carry on where they left off against SuperSport United in their last, when they face Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.
City walked away 3-0 winners in that game, and the Dutch coach was pleased with his team’s performance.
While he knows Chiefs will be difficult, he points out that over the next few games all their opponents, until their final game against log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, are currently below them on the table, and he would like to keep it that way.
City are currently 7th, while Chiefs are 9th.
“I think that was very important that we that we had the result the last game against SuperSport,” Olde Riekerink said in the build-up to Wednesday’s game.
“So I think we play very good football and finally also result in the goals and we didn’t concede any goal, so, I think for all morale side, it was very, very important that game.”
“We know that we end the season in the last year in a very good way, so let’s focus on that I think if you see the fixture then we get only last game against Sundowns, all the teams we will meet are below us. So if we have the ambition, then we can show it in these games.”
“We know that Kaizer Chiefs is a big team, with a big history, and they have a very good squad. So we are aware of their qualities, I think they also lost in the last nine games only one time, they drew but sometimes they were unlucky. Rhey are in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, so it will be for us a tough game, they have also the ambition of course to be with the top eight so for them it’s also an important phase in the competition.”
“So there will be two teams with ambition and hopefully we will go on the results and the way we played against SuperSport, so, that will be important. I think it’s very, very exceptional, we have no injuries, only we have Dove as an injured player, for the rest, everybody is fit.”
