Olde Riekerink – We Are Disappointed

Cape Town City Head Coach Jan Olde Riekerink was disappointed after they played to a goalless draw against Baroka in their DStv Premiership match on the weekend.

Seventh-placed City have had a disappointing run of late, without a win in eight games, and the Dutch coach says, that while they’re now conceding fewer goals than before, they’re now struggling to score.

He says on Saturday they should have taken their chances at the Cape Town Stadium, and the team is eager to get back to winning ways.

He hopes that will change when they face SuperSport United on the weekend.

“First, it’s important, we still have ten games to go,” Olde Riekerink said after the game.

“We have an objective as a team, there was a period that we conceded a lot of goals. Now that situation turned around, and we have problems to score goals. So that’s a different problem.”

“I think the first half we didn’t play bad, I think we, we should have created more chances because there was a lot of opportunities. And we should have scored and it’s getting more easy game but we let Baroka come back in the game.”

“Second half, they get two opportunities. So I changed the system. But I think from then on the last 20 minutes, we have more creativity and we get more pressure on the opponent. But it doesn’t mean that if you start that way that it will be the same pressure but at that moment in the game, it helped the team a little bit.”

“I think the feeling from the team and from us is that we are disappointed, because we are very eager to get the win here because it’s time that we win again, and SuperSport will be the next goal.”
