Pirates Plead Not Guilty On Sukazi Incident

Orlando Pirates have pleaded not guilty on the charges over the fracas involving TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) prosecutor Zola Majavu has confirmed.

On Tuesday last week, Majavu revealed the club was officially charged for the incident which saw Sukazi denied entry into Orlando Stadium before the unsavoury scenes erupted.

Pirates have now taken the official stance of pleading not guilty but judgement on the case has since been postponed due to the club’s media officer Thandi Merafe being in Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.

“Charges were formally put to Orlando Pirates, to which they pleaded not guilty, the matter had to be postponed to 15 February for evidence to be led, one of the main witnesses for Orlando Pirates is out of the country on CAF business,” Majavu said on Wednesday evening.

“Under the circumstances, the committee deemed it prudent to grant a postponement to the 15th of February where the matter will be resumed and hopefully proceed to be finalised. Once it’s finalised I’ll give a further update of the outcome thereof.”

The newly appointed prosecutor also confirmed that judgement was reserved on the Golden Arrows case on the ineligible player Simo Mbhele and will provide further updates in due course.
