Queiroz To Pick SA Assistant?

Reports coming out over the weekend state that the new Egyptian national team coach Carlos Queiroz has earmarked South African Roger De Sa to be his assistant.

De Sa is set to re-unite with Queiroz after the Mozambican-born Portuguese coach was appointed to the Egyptian post last week.

The former Pirates, Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town coach worked with Queiroz at Bafana Bafana and with the Portugal national team during the 2010 World Cup, and has been earmarked for the assistant role.

De Sa was also born in Mozambique with Portuguese roots, and his father, Octavio, was a famous Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper in his day.

He is currently leading GladAfrica Championship side Cape Town All Stars.

De Sa is a well known name in Egypt, after leading the Buccaneers to the CAF Champions League final in 2013, where his team faced both Al Ahly and Zamalek during that campaign. While they eventually lost to Ahly in the final, they had progressed through a tough group that included both Egyptian giants, and famously beat Zamalek 4-1.

After he quit at Pirates there were reports that he was approached by an Egyptian club. Queiroz is expected to arrive in Egypt this week when his and De Sa’s contracts will be finalised.
