Rakhale – I’ve Always Taken A Risk

Sekhukhune United midfielder Thabo Rakhale says it was a huge risk for him to join Orlando Pirates when he did, and likewise for every team he played for.

Jomo as he is affectionately known, has specifically singled out Pirates as one of the teams he took a big risk to join in his football career.

The 31-year-old playmaker joined the Buccaneers in 2012 from Sivutsa Stars, and loaned back to the same team as well as to Polokwane City before returning to become a key player at the club.

Rakhale was speaking to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago recently.

“Let me take you back a bit, let me say since my professional career I have always taken risks. When I signed for Orlando Pirates there were teams that wanted me and so-called small teams and Pirates was there,” he told iDiski Times.

“That time they had the likes of Mark Mayambela, Benni McCarthy was still there, Daine Klate and all those good players they had back then were there, and it was after they won a treble.

“So I took that risk that no matter who they have there, one day I will get my chance, I’m going there, I’m not going to another team, I’m going there.

“Then two years later that’s when they brought Thabo Rakhale and even when I left there were teams that wanted me, and I wanted to move out of Johannesburg, because my head was messed up by that time, I had to go somewhere where it would be more challenging for me.

“I went to Chippa United where I had played my best football in the PSL because I got many Man of the Match awards while I was there, which means I was doing something good whilst I was there.

“So every team I have played for it was risk for me to go there, though it was positive.”
