Richards Bay Go 4 Points Clear

Richards Bay moved four points clear at the top of the GladAfrica Championship, following four mid-week games played on Wednesday.

All four matches ended with wins for away teams

With six games remaining in the campaign, Simo Dladla’s team beat Royal AM 1-0 and moved to 41 points, four points clear of second placed TS Sporting, and third-placed Royal AM.

Free State Stars beat Pretoria Callies 1-0, and that saw them climb to fifth, and join fourth-placed Sekhukhune United and sixth-placed JDR Stars on 36 points.

Polokwane City moved up to 11th after they beat bottom team Bizana Pondo Chiefs 2-0.

And for the first time since the second week of fixtures, Cape Town Spurs moved out of the relegation spots, as they jumped up to 13th on the table with a 1-0 win over neighbours Cape Town All Stars.

The result sees another Cape Town team, Steenberg United, drop into 15th spot.

There are five games this coming Saturday, starting with Bizana Pondo Chiefs hosting Free State Stars, Ea Lla Koto are on a late surge, and will be favourites to beat the bottom team, even though they are away from home. JDR Stars will be looking to get back on track when they host Polokwane City, who themselves are still not out of the race. Royal AM and Uthongathi will also be in a crucial battle for three points, while Cape Town All Stars will have a tough home assignment against TS Sporting. Finally Jomo Cosmos host a desperate Steenberg United, but Jomo Sono will know that a victory for his team will have him back in the promotion race.

On Sunday Cape Town Spurs will look to keep climbing away from the danger zone when they host Cape United, who will also still be harbouring outside hopes of a top three finish. AmaTuks and Pretoria Callies meet in a Tshwane derby, while the game of the round is leaders Richards Bay hosting challengers Sekhukhune United.
