Royal AM Head Back To Court
The matter of the DStv Premiership promotion of Sekhukhune United is under scrutiny again, as Royal AM have filed an urgent notice of application for leave to appeal the court decision that saw Sekhukhune declared the winners of the GladAfrica Championship.
iDiski Times has seen the court papers that have been submitted to the Gauteng High Court today.
It confirms what Royal AM president Shauwn Mkhize said on Friday.
The businesswoman spoke during a gala dinner on Friday before Saturday’s ruling saw Sekhukhune gain automatic promotion, insisting her players will not train and prepare for the upcoming DStv Premiership promotion/relegation play offs.
Royal AM will face Chippa United and Richard Bay in the playoffs after Sekhukhune were awarded three points for the game against Polokwane City, which saw them go above Royal AM on the final GladAfrica Championship log.
But if Mkhize’s words from Friday are anything to go by, Royal AM might appeal Saturday’s ruling by judge Roland Sutherland.
“What I know is that my team played 30 games and we are number one on the log, I don’t care about trying to win the league (GladAfrica Championship) in the boardroom,” she said during a gala dinner on Friday, as per Farpost.
“My players are at home, there is no need to keep on training because we are the champions, I don’t want to entertain this issue of taking football to the boardroom.
“I was in Johannesburg to fight for something I don’t know and I don’t know why we should be fighting about this.
“I’ll fight for my team, this league won’t start, my gloves are off. I’ll fight for my boys because I believe they did their best.”
Royal AM’s first playoff game against Richards Bay is scheduled for Tuesday, 15 June, but it remains to be seen whether the Pietermaritzburg-based club will pitch up.
