Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has once again posed the Footballer of the Season question on Andile Jali after his Man of the Match display against Royal AM.

The tenacious midfielder ran the show against the KZN outfit in their home ground in Chatsworth as Sundowns secured a place in the Nedbank Cup final with a 2-1 victory.

Masandawana are now on course for a domestic treble and Jali has been at the forefront of their incredible dominance in South African football this season with 38 games played in all comeptitons.

“It’s been the entire season [Jali has impressed] and I couple of months ago I asked the entire South Africa and media why are we not starting this debate about Footballer of the Season, the performances have been indicative of the personality,” Mokwena told SuperSport TV after tge game.

“A couple of years ago they called him the Napolean, the Dynamo and that’s what he shows, the leadership qualities.

“His tenacity and just his overall experience and ability to assist the team in difficult moments and we’re very fortunate to have him. The entire group you know, ‘AJ’ is just a reflection of the entire group.”

Mokwena went on to laud the entire squad for their efforts to overcome John Maduka’s side who’ve been one of the surprise packages as they are now occupying second place in the DStv Premiership and favourites to secure CAF Champions League qualification as league runners-up.

“A very spirited fight from the opposition, Royal AM have had a very good season, John Maduka and his technical team have done very well but huge kudos to our team, we knew we had to battle today, fight and grind and play with grit and we did that.

“We played the way the game was supposed to be played because the pitch is not very very good and they were fresher, they ran, they closed us down, they chased us all over the pitch and they forced us into a lot of mistakes. But I think tactically we were excellent today and probably tactically the best performance of the season.”
