Rulani Reacts To Komphela To Pirates Rumours
Rulani Mokwena has insisted that rumours of Steve Komphela being chased by Orlando Pirates did not distract Mamelodi Sundowns this season.
The Masandawana co-head coach addressed local media ahead of his side’s MTn8 semi-final first leg against Golden Arrows on Saturday.
Mokwena was asked whether the rumours around first-team coach Komphela, who reportedly had an offer to join Pirates ahead of the campaign, has disturbed or distracted the technical team, but Mokwena was adamant that Downs are more focussed than ever.
“Business as usual, we don’t respond to speculations. We don’t live in a space where we allow speculations to derail us from where we are trying to go,” he told reporters.
“We are extremely ambitious. This season we are extremely hungry. We want to be the best and we want to work hard for that.
“Not to be deviated or side-tracked by minor issues or speculations, we want to focus on trying to be the best we can for this club, the president, the chairman and everybody associated with it that works incredible hours to see this club succeed.
“But also to our fans because really in this moment the country is going through a very difficult time, as a people we are going through a very difficult time.
“We have to stay focused and keep our eyes on the price and that’s that, no distractions. That is the story, focus on hard work for the season.”
Sundowns will face Golden Arrows in their semi-final first leg on Saturday, with the second leg scheduled for 28 September.
