SA Midfielder Unveiled In Finland

South African midfielder Mlungisi Johan Mkhwanazi has been snapped up by Finnish side IFK Mariehamn.

The 22-year-old former Stars of Africa graduate has been unveiled by the Veikkausliiga club this week.

Mkhwanazi is actually the second South African at the club, as he joins compatriot Yanga Baliso in Finland.

Baliso, a former Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates player, has been at IFK for two seasons.

Mkhwanazi made his professional debut in South Africa last season when he turned out for Cape Town All Stars in the GladAfrica Championship.

“Mkhwanazi joins the team on Thursday. He is raised in a high quality academy in South Africa so we expect him to maintain a good Finnish league level,” club director Peter Mattsson was quoted as saying.

“Of course we have to give him some time to adapt to our game and get into the team, but we believe that IFK is a good environment for Johan to continue to develop as a player.”
